Support & Counselling
The Surrey Hospice Society offers support to people facing a life-limiting illness and to their families through professional counselling and/or visits by trained volunteers. These services are offered when possible in a home setting, in the Tertiary Palliative Unit at Surrey Memorial Hospital and at the Laurel Place Hospice Residence.
Similar services are offered for families who are grieving the loss of loved ones. Individual counselling sessions are available at the Surrey Hospice Society Resource Centre with limited waiting times. Group sessions for youth and adults run several times a year in different formats (please see our other pages under Support and Counselling for more information).
The journey may be hard but you don’t need to travel it alone.
What is Bereavement?
Bereavement is grief associated with death. The death maybe of a child before or after birth, of a parent or other family member, a friend, or anyone for whom you may have deep feelings. Death may have been sudden or coming after a long process. It could be from an accident, illness, suicide, substance overdose, or homicide.
