The Art of Giving

Since its inception in 1986, the Surrey Hospice Society has been a steadfast companion to individuals and families facing the end of life and navigating grief. The Society’s mission has always been simple yet profound: to provide compassionate, professional, and free support to those who need it most during life’s most vulnerable moments.

The Surrey Hospice Society is deeply committed to serving people of all cultures, languages, religions, and ethnicities, with a focus on inclusivity and equity. As a non-partisan, non-denominational organization, we ensure that anyone in need of support is welcome and cared for, regardless of background. In a community as diverse as Surrey, this commitment is especially important, as we strive to create a compassionate environment where no one has to face the journey of loss alone.

Our Services: Compassionate Support for All

The Surrey Hospice Society provides an array of free programs that aim to ease the emotional, practical, and spiritual burdens of individuals and families who are navigating end-of-life care or grief. These services include:

  • Palliative Support: Offering individuals facing terminal illness companionship to help them peace, dignity, and comfort as they approach the end of their life.

  • Grief and Bereavement Counseling: Assisting those coping with the loss of loved ones, helping them to process grief and find healing, whether the loss is recent or from many years ago.

  • Volunteer Companionship: Our volunteers, known as “Companions for the Journey,” provide crucial emotional support to patients and families, offering companionship, comfort, and a listening ear during some of life’s most challenging times.

  • Support Groups: Facilitating groups that allow individuals to connect with others going through similar experiences, fostering a sense of community and understanding.

  • Public education: offering classes, seminars, and workshops to community groups, organizations and the public on various topics pertaining to end-of-life, grief, ,legacy building as well as helping to build grief and trauma support skills for those organizations and service providers who are also serving the community at large.

All of these services are provided entirely free of charge. For those at the end of life or deep in the throes of grief, the support provided by Surrey Hospice Society is a vital lifeline. It ensures that no one faces these difficult times alone and that families receive the emotional, psychological, and spiritual care they need.

A Vital Need for Support

Despite the deep value and importance of our work, Surrey Hospice Society is facing significant funding challenges in today’s uncertain and economically strained environment. We rely on the generosity of the community, corporate sponsors, and donors to continue offering our services to those in need. With the rising costs of healthcare and growing demand for our services, the need for additional funding has never been more urgent.

This is why the Surrey Hospice Society is excited to announce a charity art auction, featuring ten stunning paintings donated by the late, renowned artist Christian Soto. These works of art represent not only the legacy of a talented artist but also the enduring spirit of giving and community support. The proceeds from this auction will directly benefit our programs and services, ensuring that we can continue to provide life-affirming care to those who rely on us during their most vulnerable moments.

Companions for the Journey

The Surrey Hospice Society believes that at the end of life, every individual deserves to have a compassionate companion by their side. Our volunteers are not just staff or visitors—they are trained, caring individuals who serve as trusted guides, offering a sense of security and solace to those at their most vulnerable. We are more than an organization; we are a community that believes no one should journey through illness or grief alone. We are truly “Companions for the Journey.”

As we look to the future, we remain steadfast in our commitment to supporting the people of Surrey, and we continue to seek ways to raise awareness and funding to sustain our important work. The upcoming art auction is a reflection of the community’s ongoing support, and every bid placed will help us continue to offer these essential services at no cost to those who need them most.
